Real estate isn’t just about properties and numbers—it’s about transformation. It’s a path to building wealth, strengthening relationships, and creating a meaningful legacy.

On a recent episode of Invested Souls, we had the pleasure of hosting Michael Kramer, whose family-focused approach to real estate offers invaluable lessons for anyone looking to align their financial goals with their values.

In this blog post, we’ll explore the key themes of our conversation. From the courage to start something new to the power of authenticity and collaboration, Michael shared insights that can inspire your journey in real estate and life.

Building Wealth with Purpose

Michael’s journey into real estate wasn’t straight. Like many, he had reservations. Managing properties seemed daunting, and he and his wife debated the potential risks and rewards. It wasn’t until 2016 that he fully embraced real estate real estate as a means to create generational wealth.

For Michael, real estate became more than an investment—it became a mission to empower families. Through Freed by Real Estate, his family-run business, Michael focuses on helping others see property investment's financial and emotional benefits.

As Michael explained, success in real estate often comes down to partnerships. Whether working with a knowledgeable mortgage broker or connecting with like-minded individuals, having the right people in your corner is crucial.

Strengthening Family Bonds Through Business

Michael is dedicated to promoting family harmony, understanding complex dynamics, and nurturing positive relationships among family members.

During the podcast, he shared a common scenario he’s observed: families selling valuable properties at a discount because they lack the knowledge to manage them. This realization fueled his family-first approach to real estate.

Michael’s entire family—12 members in total—plays a role in their real estate business. His wife serves as CFO, his sister-in-law leads marketing, and even his father-in-law contributes to property maintenance. Each family member’s strengths match responsibilities, creating a sense of purpose and unity.

Michael shared these key elements for maintaining family harmony in business:

  • Assigning Skill-Based Roles: Match tasks to each person’s unique abilities and passions.
  • Focusing on Education: Equip family members with the knowledge to manage properties effectively.
  • Planning for the Long Term: Prepare the next generation to inherit and sustain the family’s legacy collaboratively.

For Michael, real estate is more than wealth—it’s about ensuring his children inherit assets and the skills and vision to manage them together.

The Courage to Start

Starting something new requires courage in real estate or any other field. During our conversation, Michael emphasized that confidence isn’t the starting point—courage is.

They faced uncertainty when Michael and his family entered the real estate world. They had no guarantees of success, but their willingness to act boldly and learn along the way set the foundation for their growth.

Michael outlined three principles for overcoming fear and taking action:

  • Set Your Standards: Define success and use those standards to guide your decisions.
  • Start Small: Take incremental steps to build momentum and confidence.
  • Embrace Mistakes: Consider challenges as chances to learn instead of obstacles.

Authenticity: A Game-Changer in Real Estate

One of Michael's most impactful insights was the significance of authenticity. In today’s world, people crave genuine connections. For Michael, authenticity involves remaining aligned with your values and expressing yourself with genuine sincerity.

This approach has proven effective in his business. Michael shared a story about his son-in-law, who tested polished, high-production ads against casual, unscripted ones. The more straightforward ads outperformed the polished ones because they felt more relatable and authentic.

Authenticity also plays a role in continuous learning. Michael emphasized how listening to industry podcasts provides fresh perspectives and keeps him grounded in his values.

Collaboration: The Key to Bigger Ideas

Collaboration is at the heart of Michael’s success. He spoke about the concept of the "third mind"—the idea that when two or more people come together with open minds, they create something greater than any individual could achieve alone.

Michael implements this principle through family brainstorming sessions and team book studies. One book that has profoundly influenced his thinking is Think and Grow Rich, written by Napoleon Hill. Its chapter on masterminds inspired him to foster a culture of collaboration and empathy within his business.

Creating a collaborative environment, like working with a podcast production company, requires effort, vision, and shared goals. But the results—a unified team and stronger outcomes—are worth it.

A Legacy of Wealth and Harmony

My conversation with Michael Kramer on Invested Souls reminded me why real estate is about so much more than financial success. It’s about creating a legacy that reflects your values, strengthens your relationships, and provides a foundation for future generations.

Michael’s family-focused approach demonstrates that wealth is most meaningful when it brings people together. By prioritizing harmony, embracing authenticity, and fostering collaboration, he has built something truly extraordinary—not just for his family but also for the countless others he’s inspired along the way.

Whether you’re just starting in real estate or looking to refine your strategy, the key is to define your vision and act boldly. Every decision you make today shapes the legacy you’ll leave tomorrow. Real estate isn’t just an investment; it’s an opportunity to create lasting impact and connection.
